I’m doing a thirteen month anniversary because it’s more Elphaba-esque and totally not because I forgot to do one at a year

I started playing Elphaba on September 5th, 2013 on a whim. I’d never heard of tumblr roleplay before, but I figured I’d just give it a shot. I can’t possibly begin to explain how grateful I am that I made that decision. I’m gonna try not to go into too much rambling on it, but I just need to pay respect to what this community and this character have given me.

Elphaba has been an important part of my life since I was in the seventh grade. My grandparents first took me to see the show on tour In Montreal in 2012, with Christine Dwyer and Jeanna de Waal headlining the second national tour. At that point I had long given up on my dream of performing for more ‘realistic’ careers. One of the clearest memories I have in my life is the moment I realized I wasn’t ready to give up on it. When I first saw WICKED I was reminded why theater was, and always will be, so important to me. It reminded how important telling stories is, and how much strength you can give to others in playing the lives of others. To me, Elphaba was never so much a role model as she was someone I saw way too much of myself in. Later that year I went on to read the book and I fell deeper in love the blunt cynicism and allegorical elements and the utter reality that I saw in the characters. To me, Elphaba is the reason I’ve held on to so much of myself through everything I’ve gone through, she’s something I can always come back to, she’s grounding. When people laugh about being connected to a character, I’m reminded about her, and I’m reminded of the powerful connections we all form to stories whether consciously or not, and that is an incredibly powerful thing.

In playing Elphaba I’ve been given so many gifts. I’ve gotten to know and understand her on a deeper level than I ever imagined, and I’ve been pushed a writer by other amazing people I’ve come to know here. Most of you who know me now never saw this blog when it was brand new, but I can promise you I’ve come so far from there and I owe it all to you who taught me and pushed me to be who I am right now. A lot of you also know I’ve had about a bazillion muses and blogs. Of the top of my head I’ve had blogs for eleven different muses, and those are just the ones I made blogs for. But the thing is, I always come back to Elphaba. No matter how muses live and die, come and go, Elphaba has always been constant, her muse has never faltered, and that’s been telling to me.

To close, I just want to thank you all again for everything you’ve given to me. Being a part of this community, while it has its shortcomings and faults, has meant so much to me. Everyone I’ve met and written with and talked to on here have done so much for me, and it means so much to me that I can come here and feel at home. Under the cut there are some people I just have to do some ranting about because they’ve just done so much for me, but if I follow you that should be an automatic sign that you have my love and affection. Thank you all again for thirteen months of laughing and crying and late night skype conversations and everything in-between. I adore you all, and I couldn’t possibly say what I want to you about each of you because I’d be here all year writing it, but you are all my little monkeys.

icewiitch / nixreginam: Veronica, I couldn’t possibly ever say this enough, but you mean the world to me. Over the time I’ve know you you’ve done so much for me that i could never repay and I just don’t think it’s possible for me to express how thankful I am for that. Seriously. Sometimes I feel awful because I dump so much stuff on you, but it’s truly because I feel more comfortable with you than I do with a lot of my friends I know in person. I really want you to know I consider you one of my best friends and I have for awhile. I can tell you anything and you’re always there for me whether I’m crying about a musical or my life. There’ve been times that I honestly don’t know what I’d have done if you hadn’t been there and I’m just so grateful to have you as a friend I just can’t say it enough I. I have sat back and just cried because I know you, and that’s not an exaggeration. Thank you so much for being there when you are.

In terms of our RP relationship Elphaba’s relationship with Elsa has truly been one of my most favorite relationships I’ve developed through RP. The way you play Elsa is so dynamic and so utterly human and it allows so many wonderfully complex threads. I could never say enough how much I adore your Elsa, because honestly, when I entered the Frozen RP community I just couldn’t find an Elsa I thought really understood her until I met you and every mannerism you capture in her is so on point I could cry, and her and Elphie’s relationship in all its craziness is just so much fun to explore as a writer, and I will never tire of it. In short, I’m so glad to know you as a friend and a writer.

glxnda: OLIVIA. BABE. Wow I mean where do I even start. I’m gonna be brutally honest, before you I didn’t like any of the Glindas I roleplayed with. They just didn’t get her or the relationship like you do. I mean, it’s true friendship when we can stay up until two am making playlists and headcanons for them that’s love bitch. I just so completely admire how weel you capture Glinda in her wisdom and her glitter and her naivety, and how you really understand the darker parts of their story. Literally you’re just a perfect Glinda and you’re unique and on point and I’m so grateful you are my Glinda.

But as much as I could go on about your portrayal (and trust me, I could) your personality and friendship are as valuable to me. You’re someone who gets a lot of what I say and, I mean, dude you watched Spring Awakening for me if that’s not dedication to this friendship I don’t know what is. I’ve been able to tell you so much and I know you’ve been through a lot lately too and I want to take this opportunity to tell you how strong and absolutely wonderful you are, and you always have me. No getting rid of me. Sorry. I will send you horrible OTP songs at one am for the rest of your life. Also someday I will hug you. This is a personal goal.

tredeciim: Maddy, man, I know our schedules clash and we don’t get to talk much anymore but I’m just totally in love with you anyway. First of all, you’re one of those people I feel like is very similar to me in situation, but you’re also like really awesome and inspiring and I love you so much because we can have really deep conversations one minute and then talk about douche-prince Hans the next. This is a very attractive quality in a friend. I know you live like a thousand miles from me but personal goal to talk to you someday because I consider you a friend and I just always want to get to know you better.

And then there’s your WRITING and to be honest it has to stop it’s surpassed the allowed level of excellence and you’re so nice and play such douchey characters that takes some talent friend. To be honest, I had little interest in Hans’s character before you and Coyote and now I just love writing with you. And I especially love you because you make the portrayal rich without excusing his actions which is very important to me. Basically you and the Hans Squad give me hope and you can tell Coyote I said so. aLSO IF YOU THINK I FORGOT ABOUT MISCHIEF I DIDN’T. NEVER EVER. Basically you’re a bae and Alex and I will eer pressure you into making the Wizard blog until the day we die so.

ofinvisibilityx / neverxlookback / cxrnnuts: ALEX MY LOVE. Okay, so I’ve known you through RP actually for a longer time than I often realize and like you are my character writing idol, okay? Not only have you played so many completely contrasting characters that I adore but you play them all with so much depth and emotion and just wow. I followed Andy before any of the others and to be honest she is, to this day, my favorite OC I’ve ever found in the RP world. She’s so beautifully real and complex and hilarious and all my interactions with her have been so intriguing and have pushed me as a writer. Natalie is so graciously obnoxious and I love that you both play her so forcefully and yet don’t excuse such actions. And then, of course, Heather Chandler who I just laugh about on a daily basis because you have her down to a science and we need to do more on her because I cry laughing. I do, I look up to your writing and your character development like all the time and I will follow all of your blogs forever probably. Not only for the writing, but for you as one of the muns I’ve gotten to know and really enjoyed so. You’re such a real person and I’ve had the chance to have so many great conversations with you that I really value. Basically came for the hella writing stayed for the Alex.

perfectlynxrmal: Okay for reals here, Nicat, you are probably just Nessarose with a computer not gonna lie. I just really, really, really love you for your unique, accurate, and perfect grasp on Nessa’s character because every other I’d ever intereacted had her only as bitchy or only as naive and you have this perfect understanding of her complexities and her realtionships to a point that you’ve introduced me to so many new sides of Nessa and made me appreciate her so much more than I ever did before and I really love all the threads we’ve had together. arendelleprincess: sCREAMS HELLO AT SAM I know we haven’t talked a ton but man your Anna is perfect and can I just hug it out because you deserve a medal or something. I’m gonna be honest here, shortly after I followed you I unfollowed most of the Annas I was following because I was like well, don’t need them anymore. I’m so glad that Veronica turned me on to you because I’m so impressed with the layers you’ve added to her character and I love writing with you. I really love writing in the same universe with you and Veronica, and we need to do a three way Christmas thread soon because I will laugh so hard. You bring everyone up and have always made my day brighter with your personality and your spirit. I know you’ve been through some rough times lately but I truly want you to know you can always come to me, and that I just know you have a beautiful life ahead of you because you’re just so sweet and deserving of it. Don’t ever give up okay? And a casual reminder that all your characters are adorable and perfectly written, but you already knew that.

Seriously though, Tinkerbell is one of my favorite characters ever done on OUAT and I love having such a faithful and dynamic Tink to write with. I’ve followed you for awhile but we just started writing together and I’m just so happy I found you because I’ve had such a hard time finding Reginas that were well-rounded and dynamic and yours is all of those things and then some. i love reading your threads and writing with you and seeing how to explore Regina as a character and maintain her integrity without missing out in key aspects of her.
