The house missed. Just barely, but it missed. Another few feet and Nessarose would have been crushed. She had managed to dive out of the way just in time, and had a few scrapes and bruises, but was otherwise unhurt.

“Was she hit?” Nessarose heard from around her. “Is she dead?” The words of her subjects stung. Did she really put such cruelty upon them while trying to keep Boq with her that she had caused them all to hate her? But now Boq was gone, turned into the tinman by her sister in a last ditch attempt to save him, and was off to the Emerald City to try to convince Galinda to call off her marriage to Fiyero.

The crushing anguish Nessa had felt over Boq’s betrayal and rejection returned, and she wished for a fleeting moment that the house had actually hit her.
